This is my Senior Prom Picture.
Notice we did not smile, and I don't think that was planned either. I'd just cut my shoulder length hair into a bob that was shaves in the back and had a tail**blank stare** I knew my mother would be upset so I saved the pony tail that was cut off and brought it home to hair.
Crickets
I was wearing a $1000 dress from I. Magnin which was a size too big by the time prom came around and looking at it again, was probably designed from a much more mature woman, at least someone with some curves. I'd cut out the picture of the dress and saved it all year, and found it on sale at the last minute for a reasonable price.
That was my boyfriend.
He'd been out of high school for two years.
I spent most of my Senior Year with him at his cousin's house, cutting class, watching "stories" and smoking pot.
He drove us to the Prom in a Yellow Caddillac El Dorado with a 5th Wheel (you might have to be from Oakland to know what that means)
He's wearing Gucci loafers with no socks and a Tuxedo from his cousin's wedding.
Yes! I was taller than him.
He wanted me to wear heels because he thought it was sexy.
My mother and I disagreed.
My mother still calls him Hambone to this day, because the first time I brought him home from dinner he started doing the Hambone at the table (that thing when you slap your hand between your thigh and chest to keep rhythm to a song).
Needless to say he was kinda country, and my parents were nothing short of appalled.
One of my besties was kind enough to post this on Facebook for me....
1989 was a helluva year!

LOL...I'm lovin that picture!!
I was taller than my highschool love-boyfriend-prom date too. I just saw him recently and he informed me that our picture from my senior prom is still in his mother's living room. Now THAT'S funny, I've been out of highschool for over 25 years.
I'm from Philly and of course I know about that 5th wheel on the back of the EL-Dog..LOL
diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin the scene......
I don't care to share my prom pic. My mother bought me this hot pink strapless dress and shoes to match......and I didn't fill the dress out at the top, so all night I sat down trying to cover up my strapless bra showing.......LOL
yeah 1989 was something......
I am loving this prom picture!!!!
Why are the two of you so damned flyyyyy?
Not the hambone!!!!
@ onefromphilly~I think his mom still has our picture on the piano...We were a flaming hot mess that night and you couldn't tell me nothing! I had me a college boy from Texas.
Wow! the way we were!
@ lauging808~I think sharing is caring and you should post the picture, if for no other reason at least we don't have to relive every 80's fashion faux pas that seems to be coming back around.
@ 1969~Girl we felt fly but I'm not sure if fly is the actual word I'd use to describe us.
@ Chele~Yes, imagine trying to bring your boyfriend home to meet your family and he breaks out with the hambone at the table...like it was a special talent that needed to be shared.
Dead
He will always be known as Hambone to my mother..even almost 20 years later.
Loving that picture. LOL
The front of my hair was cut like that with the back halfway down my back in 1989. I think a lot of prom pictures from 1987-1990 are similar to yours.
Love the picture. Ya'll are so cool - you almost look hostile! LOL @ Hambone
Thanks for sharing
He had me at "Gucci loafers with no socks!!"
@ Monique~I have clearly put myself on blast with this one..but hey Why not?
@ Nexgrl~I'm hoping I can find some more of my prom pix, I was a hot mess, my personal favorite featured me in Peach Lace, damn near from head to toe and my date in a white tuxedo with a matching cumberbun.
He was from Richmond, and his Daddy drove us to his Senior Prom in a Nissan Sentra cuz I was on 13 and too young to go on a real date...
@ Sissy~So cool we look almost hostile! I'm taking that one to the bank!
@ So Wise~yes girl, Gucci tassled loafers. Who was doing that in 1989? I mean really??
5th wheel on the trunk - true playa's ride.
Not the hambone - yeah, he was country.
I see you are younger than me. In 89' I was a junior in college, still a pretty good year.
Rich picture a yellow chromed out Caddie with a 5th wheel, you couldn't tell us nothing we thought we were real OG's.
The night is mostly a blur for me after all these years but his Hambone will go down in history.
Hambone, hambone have ya heard?
Ya mama got hit by a flying turd!
ROFLMFAO!!
Hey woman, I am so glad you are ok. I hope you get some good rest and TLC at your sister's house!
p.s.: I just realized, that I do NOT have a prom picture from either of my proms!! My mom was wrong for that one!
classic
mac momma pose
See? You're gonna have me doing flashback posts too now! HAHAHA...and yes 1989 was one HELLUVA year! Are you ready for your reunion?? I've got ONE YEAR to get my body right (even tho @ 9 months pregnant I've only put on 16lbs). HAHA...then watch me not go!
LMAO!
Love that pic...and the attitude just oozes from it. I like the dress I wore to my senior prom but I still can't believe the thing I wore to junior prom. It was a hideous, poofy southern belle dress...eeeewwwww.
@ Monicac2~Hambone, Hambone where you been?
Girl, he knew all kinds of Hambone songs that me and my family were NOT familiar with!
My Momma doesn't have any of my Prom Pix either..but four kids and 20 years later, I can't blame her.
@ Torrance~Agreed...A Mac Momma in the making.
@ Tam~I know you got some 80's outfits to share, and yes girl I'm excited about the reunion!
@ Bella~You can only laugh!
@ Kristin~I have one of those Poofy numbers in the Prom bag too, it was the 80's we can't be blamed for our fashion faux pas.
CTFU!!!!!!!!
I love love love love looking at old high school pics. The girl I once was..*sigh*
Y'all look mad as hell!!!
Gurrrrl, not the 5th Wheel Dorado, did it have a "moon roof" too? LOL. And you know you taking me back with I.Magnin's right? I bought my Jr. Prom "lady gloves" there.
Girl, he knew all kinds of Hambone songs that me and my family were NOT familiar with!
I'm over here busting a gut.
